Consists of the personal journal of Brice McFall, 2nd Tennessee Cavalry Regiment, USA. Contains references to engagements with Forrest's cavalry in northern Alabama in 1864, the presidential election of 1864, engagements with Confederate General John Bell Hood's army in Alabama in November 1864, and an attack on Hood's pontoon train in January 1865. Also mentions McFall's views on the secession crisis of 1859-1860, politics, the national war debt, soldiering, speculators, proposed amendments to the Tennessee state constitution dealing with Reconstruction and Negro suffrage, and includes poetry relating to the Civil War, McFall's fellow soldiers, and living conditions around camp.
